THE METROPOLITAN JOHN, PRIMATE OF THE ORTHODOX CHURCH
OF PORTUGAL, visit the State and the Republic of Sao Tome and Principe
during a stay of 8 days.
During the Official Visit, Our Metropolitan had the opportunity to meet the at
the highest level with some key figures from the State and Government of the
Republic of Sao Tome and Principe; Entities of charitable nature and Benefit,
such as Caritas Diocesan National; with the Graduate Institute of Accounting and
Information Administration (IUCAI); both with the Board of Directors of the
Bank Equador and Bankers, its owners; with the Governor of the Central Bank
of the Republic Santomense; with Dr. Pinto da Costa, former President of the
Republic of Sao Tome and Principe; with National Business Groups and also to
listen to local people, observe, see and feel the pulse of this Brother People of Sao
Tome and Principe.
The purpose of the visit of Metropolitan of Portugal to Sao Tome and Principe
had the singular purpose of presenting a framework for cooperation between the
International Finance Authorities Represented by the Church and the State and
Republic of Sao Tome and Principe.
The main objective was to present the framework of specific cooperation in
helping the State of Sao Tome and Principe to have access to International
Financial resources to enable it to structure and restructure the country in the
sectors most relevant to the quality of life of the People of Sao Tome and even
considering strategic sectors for the State in the context of Central Africa and
Islands.
In this context and purpose, the Metropolitan of Portugal declared before the
Authorities of State and Government Sao Tome and Principe, full and effective
availability of a credit line of € 1.5 Billion (one Billion and five hundred million
Euros) to fund all projects the State considers structural for the country, in all
strategic sectors, aiming a whole restructuration of Sao Tome and Principe by
providing financial resources to the Country generated by the development of
these same areas of original investments.
Metropolitan John of Portugal also met with many other Rulers of the Republic of
Sao Tome and Principe, such as:

The President of the National Assembly of the State of Sao Tome and
Principe - on tour performing the High Functions of Head of State because
President Fradique Meneses was in a State Official Visit to Taiwan and
Portugal;
- The. Vice - Prime Minister;
- The Minister of Justice;
- The Minister of Planning;
- The President of the Supreme Court;
- The Vice - Governor of Central Bank of Sao Tome and Principe
- And yet with Dr. Pinto da Costa, former President of the Republic of Sao
Tome and Principe.
The willingness of the Orthodox Church of Portugal, through Its Primate,
Metropolitan John of Portugal, in order to contribute to a restructuring of the
country at nationally level, has found greater receptivity on the part of State
Officials and Government of Republic of Sao Tome and Principe.It is now up to Government Authorities of Sao Tome and Principe to frame the
geostrategic point of view - both financial and political - the potential measures,
arising from the collaboration formally proposed by the Metropolitan of Portugal.May Our God brighten and clarify the Government Authorities of Sao Tome
and Principe on the best solutions and financial policies to be taken if we have
to overcome the technical difficulties that may persist, so that this design
completely altruistic and fraternal, exposed by the Primate Portugal leading to
the determination and timely resolution of the measures listed and announced
proposals.
We thank both the State and Government of the Republic of Sao Tome and
Principe for the fraternal and helpful, with which ruled - at all times - the sincere
dialogue, interested, serious and committed, on auscultation of the Cooperation
Project announced by Metropolitan John, Primate of the Orthodox Church in
Portugal.
