XIRAPRESS MONTHLY PUBLICATION CONTENTS CONCERNING THE MONASTERY OF THE BIRTH OF THE MOTHER OF GOD. (translation from portuguese into inglish language)
“Monastery of the Birth of the Mother of God.
Located in the area of the ancient Farm of Granja (region which has evidence of the former quintan of the XVI century, belonging to the Duke of Palmela; in the same manner as archaeologic vestiges. – combustion structure (kiln) alloted to the lime production; usual ceramic and pottery. Not far from, is located the Orthodox Monastery of the Birth of the Mother of God.
Belonging to the Orthodox Church of Portugal, the Monastery is a place of shelter, prayer, congregation and reunion and integration of the eastern european communities, which brought with themselves the particularity of their own Cristian Orthodox Rituals.
The Monastery of the Birth of the Mother of God has several strutures, monastic constructions, like in the very same manner, a space surrounding the Monastery, where the bucolic expression of the oak parque, integrates Faith and nature in a both privileged and distinct environement for prayer and Apostolic work, guided by Abadessa (Higumenia) Rafaela.
Largely welcomed by the community of the Cachoeiras parish, still recentely the pupils of the local schools did take the opportunity for learning more about the cultual differences and aesthetics language of the Faith, through the iniciation to the Holy Icons of the Saints.
The Monastery of Birth of the Mother of God, is also an exceptional out space to enjoy both the beauty of the Churches and traditional Icon’s art of the Eastern of Europe.
Independentely of it’s own expression of Faith, one thing is for sure, Cachoeiras, does not forget Its pure Mother and Mother of Christ our God and Saviour, thoughout Its deep Veneration to Mary, the Mother of God, which still expresses in each and every community.
